Assignment due Sept. 8

Because class ran a little late, I didn't have a chance to give you this week's assignment, so here goes.

1. Bring in two copies of your draft article to class.
2. Write a blog item drawing on a science story or stories in the New York Times. Due Friday at 6 p.m.
3. Read "Reviving the Lost Art of Naming the World" and be prepared to discuss it in class. You can get a copy from Muriel LaFave in the Journalism Department office in Yokum Hall. Or I can e-mail you a Word document.
4. Read "In Praise of the Humble Comma."

From here on, read over the writer's tip sheet (the one I handed out) each time you sit down to write a blog or news article. Be sure to edit your work before posting or handing in an article. Starting this week, I will point out spelling and syntax articles in your blogs. These should be corrected before our next class.

Good luck with your articles. E-mail me if you have problems or questions.
